Multi-purpose Hair Spritz: For Easy Styling

August 6, 2017

This is my multipurpose healthy hair spritz!

It’s styling/detangling/strengthening/conditioning/scalp/lice repellant all-in-one!!

I spray this on my girls hair every morning before I style their hair!!  It helps detangle their birds nest bed head, whilst wetting their hair for easy styling. My girls have very thin hair and my eldest sometimes gets itchy scalp.  With my eldest daughter now attending Preschool, I am very aware of lice infestations. I would much rather prevent this with a natural repellant than to have to treat it! So I decided to make a wicked hair spritz that can kill all birds with one stone!

HAIR SPRITZ RECIPE

  • 10 Drops of Peppermint Oil
  • 5 Drops of Eucalyptus Oil
  • 5 Drops of Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca)
  • 5 Drops of Rosemary Oil
  • A coin sized squeeze of DoTERRAs conditioner and
  • Fill up with water!

Shake till all mixed up and enjoy!!  This recipe is for a 60ml (2.oz) glass bottle spray.

Peppermint, Eucalyptus and Tea Tree repel lice and insects. Tea tree is great for the scalp and Rosemary helps strengthen hair. Add a little bit of non-toxic conditioner to help detangle and smooth fly away hair.

Ok, here’s a scary story….  When my daughter was 3, we found creepy crawlies in her hair.  I didn’t know what lice was supposed to look like, but my sister, a mother of 4 girls knew exactly what it was!  It was safe to say that I……. FREAKED OUT!!!  I was so creeped out and shocked at the same time.  My girl didn’t go to any daycare or school yet, so I was totally unprepared.  The eggs were like this teeny tiny clear  thing that is attached to a piece of hair close to the scalp. It’s shiny and is the size of dandruff or smaller.  When you touch it, it won’t move and can only be pulled off with your nails.  Unlike dandruff, it clings on tight to your hair!  Lice are slightly bigger and brown. I didn’t seem to have any creepy crawlies, so I was very relieved.  It was short-lived though, because a couple of days after I found eggs in my hair.  So GROSS!  An infestation is like this:  itchy scalp, total sterilising of all hair brushes/combs, some hair stuff had to go in the trash, washed all pillowcases, sheets, clothes that may have been contaminated and beware of furniture!  This is how I treated lice:

LICE BOMB

  • 7 Drops of Tea Tree (Melaleuca) Oil
  • 5 Drops of Peppermint Oil
  • 2 Tablespoons of Fractionated Coconut Oil

Mix it up and apply all over the hair and scalp ensuring it is all covered. Wrap the hair up and leave overnight. Double the blend if you have really long hair.  Fractionated coconut oil smothers the lice and the essential oils helps get rid of them.

Wash hair thoroughly the next day and use the lice comb to ensure there’s no more.  Section your hair into small parts and comb through. Repeat this for a couple of days to ensure there’s no more.

Here’s to healthy, insect-free hair!
