Kids Makeup and Face Paints Contains Scary Ingredients!

June 17, 2017

If you think the ingredients in adult makeup are scary, wait till you check out the kids makeup and face paints.  Kids love to dress up, put makeup on and paint their faces.  Most kids I know do!  My kids go nuts at the toy store when they see eye shadows, lip balms, princess perfumes and nail polishes.  It’s kind of sad when I have to try and explain to them that I won’t buy it for them because it is toxic and poisonous for our bodies. The safe makeup are nowhere to be seen.

You might think “Come on,  a little makeup or face paint isn’t going to hurt anyone!”.  The amount of chemicals we face these days are unbelievable.  Children are sensitive human beings who are still growing, brains still developing and nervous system are more easily susceptible to being affected by toxic chemicals.  What if I told you, these toxic chemicals can be cancerous and are hormone disruptors? We now know illnesses such as breast cancer in adulthood, is linked to exposure to toxic ingredients at a younger age.

Where do these products come from?

They sell them in the Dollar Stores, Target, Kmart, Big W, Department Stores, Chemists/Pharmacies, Toys ‘R’ us, Baby Stores and basically anywhere where they sell toys.

Lets take a look at the chemicals found in Kids play makeup and face paints.

SCARY INGREDIENTS

1.Arsenic

According to the CDC, this heavy metal, inorganic arsenic and arsenic compounds are considered to be cancer-causing chemicals. In addition, unusually large doses of inorganic arsenic can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration and shock.

2.Lead

Lead can usually be found in the darker pigmented face paints.  Lead exposure increases the risk for damage to the brain and nervous system, slowed growth and development, learning and behavior problems (including reduced IQ, ADHD symptoms, juvenile delinquency, and criminal behavior) as well as speech and hearing issues.

3.Cadmium

Cadmium exposure is linked to kidney and lung damage. Children with higher cadmium levels are more likely to have learning disabilities and participate in special education.

4.Chromium

It’s used as a colorant and can be toxic to non-reproductive organ systems. Inhaling this as a powder can increase their risk of lung cancer.

5.Parabens

Parabens are known hormone disruptors. According to the National Institutes of Health, these chemicals can negatively affect the body’s hormonal system and produce adverse developmental, reproductive, neurological and immune effects in the human body.

6.Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is a preservative and is a known human carcinogen. It’s a substance directly capable of causing cancer in living tissue.

7.Volatile organic compounds (VOCs)

Flavored lip balms were most likely to contain VOCs.  They are also endocrine disruptors and carcinogenic.

I don’t think you need anymore convincing that kids play makeup and face paints are bad for them.  For me, I would like my kids to have the best chance for a healthy development without risking illnesses such as cancer and hormonal issues.
