Toxin-Free Makeup: Review #2

July 12, 2017

So I’m slowly making the switch to safe, toxin-free makeup.  It can be quite overwhelming, the amount of information on toxic chemicals that are wrapped around everything in our daily lives.  It’s in our food, drinks, cleaning products, skincare, makeup and more!  Does that mean we should just use the excuse of feeling overwhelmed to give up and quit before we even start?  No.  Every little bit of toxin we reduce counts! Count the positive healthy things we’ve decided to cut out today and call it a victory! Yes, lots of things can kill us, but I would rather make an effort despite how small it may be than regret it later.  Let’s do try to live a long healthy life for ourselves, our parents, our children and our loved ones.

My second box of makeup from Nourished Life arrived in the mail.  Even though it was from myself, I sure was happy to open it!  I just knew it would enhance my beauty (Haha!) AND be good for me!

This is what arrived in my box:

  • Sample of Vapour Atmosphere Soft Focus Foundation s123
  • Inika Certified Organic Brow Pencil – Dark Brunette
  • 100% Pure Black Tea Long Lasting Liquid Eyeliner
  • 100% Pure Blush: Raspberry
  • Sample of Life Basics Life 100% Natural Perfume
  • Sample of LaVanilla  Perfume ‘The Healthy Fragrance’ -Vanilla Blackberry
  • Dr Tung’s Smart Floss (I know this is not beauty related, but I needed to replace my toxic loaded floss)

I also bought this:

  • 100% Pure Green Tea Brow Builder- Medium Brown

Vapour Atmosphere Soft Focus Foundation s123

s123 is a warm medium beige shade with olive undertones, suitable for those with tanned or medium skin tones. Ideal for all skin types and particularly beneficial to those with oily or combination skin.

I’m Asian, with yellow undertones and normal to oily skin. What I found was the formula was quite silky, smooth, thin and easy to apply.  The texture was dewy and slightly shimmery.  That was a real concern for me, because I can have oily skin at times and the foundation was quite moisturizing. It was light but the coverage could easily be buildable.  Since it was moisturizing, it seems to rub off more easily than drier formulas I’ve been using. Although it was a moist formula, it didn’t make my skin look any more oilier than usual, but it didn’t help reduce it either.  The colour was slightly darker than I’m used to and not yellow enough.  What can I say, I’m a yellow skinned Asian : )  I would say this foundation is better suited for dry skin and perhaps more Mediterranean heritage.  Vapour Atmosphere, sadly was not for me.

Inika Certified Organic Brow Pencil – Dark Brunette

The Inika eyebrow pencil was soft and creamy.  Even in winter-time it was soft.  It glides on pretty smoothly and stays put.  The brush attached is really thin, cute and easy to use!  This is a dark brown colour that suits my Asian heritage, although I would usually prefer a slightly blacker brown than this. Overall, I would recommend this eyebrow pencil.

100% Pure Black Tea Long Lasting Liquid Eyeliner

The 100% Pure Black Tea Long Lasting Liquid Eyeliner in Black gains its rich dark colour from crushed, micronised black tea leaves.  This eyeliner is very black and non-irritating, just the way I like it! They say it’s long lasting, smudge-proof and water resistant, but I was still skeptical.  After trying it, I was blown away by it’s staying power!  It was highly smudge-proof and water resistant.  It was so resistant, that it wouldn’t come off even when I used my makeup facial wipe! I had to put some makeup remover on the wipe to peel it off.  I see this as a positive thing as I really really dislike runs on my face.  I was so shocked that a natural liquid eyeliner could work so well.  The only negative thing I can say, is personally, I much prefer a thicker, harder brush.  The brush is very thin and flexible.  It’s a minor thing though, as you can draw it as a thin line, or you can build it as thick as you like.  Such a great eyeliner!

100% Pure Blush: Raspberry

This light powder blush is slightly shimmery, very easy to apply and also easy to blend.  I love this pink colour because it’s a slightly dark pink and gives a really cute yet still natural looking glow on your cheeks.  I only needed a dab on each cheek and blended it in for a natural look.  More can be applied for more impact for a night out.  I love that this blush colour is made out of fruit pigments which is safe for your skin and also moisturising too! I love love this blush!

Life Basics Life 100% Natural Perfume

My Mum absolutely loves perfume even though she knows how harmful it can be.  Perfumes can have thousands of synthetic chemicals in it and many of them are toxic to our bodies.  Some of the main issues are that they are hormone disruptors and can cause strong allergic reactions.  This is true for me when I am around strong perfume, it makes my nose itch the way an onset of allergies feels.  Then if I can’t get away from the offender (i.e I’m stuck in the car) I will sneeze and my eyes will water until I can make an escape.  It’s safe to say that I’d much rather have my mum around for a very very long time and she can have the best of both worlds.  I bought Life Basics natural perfume in a sample bottle to try it out before I bought her a bigger bottle.  The fragrance was soft, floral and slightly musky.  It was beautiful and I knew she would love it.  I gave her the sample and she loves it!  So I ordered her a full sized bottle. You just need to give the bottle a shake before spraying because it’s free from emulsifiers.

LaVanilla  Perfume ‘The Healthy Fragrance’ -Vanilla Blackberry

I bought this in a sample size and the little bottle is so cute, because it comes as a spray.  It smells so sweet and fruity like blackberries but not so much vanilla which was good.  I think too much vanilla would have made it smell like those synthetic deodorants.  I’m not sure if it smells so strong because I haven’t used a perfume in so long, but it seems to last for days! Yes, I do shower, and I can still smell it on my hair!  I really like fresh fruity smells so I will be keeping this for myself to dab on here and there when I go out.  I usually just use essential oils which has therapeutic benefits, but I do like this natural perfume as well.  I might try out the LaVanilla -Vanilla Passionfruit another time as Peach and Guava sounds yummy also!

100% Pure Green Tea Brow Builder- Medium Brown

I ordered this for my Mum as her eyebrow pencil ran out.  She keeps asking me to buy her a pencil that is wide because of her poor eyesight at the moment.  I saw this brow builder and thought it may be easier for her to apply if it’s like a mascara wand. It goes on light and you just keep applying it until it reaches the darkness you prefer.  My Mum had the nicest looking brows I’d seen on her since she had poor eyesight. She loves it! And I will definitely be ordering more of this for her!
